Mongolian Bible Words
Completed books of the New Testament |
 |
Translation of the Bible into the Mongolian language is in full swing. On January 8th we began fulltime work at translating God’s Word into Mongol. The team first worked on a glossary of religious terms and came up with corresponding Mongolian words. At that time there were 4 people, Two Americans and Two Mongolians, working on this project. Since that time four more fulltime Mongolian translators have been added to this team. in April we added Bymaba to the team. Bymaba is 35 years old young lady, and brings 9 years of experience translating English into Mongolian.
All these translators work every morning translating. Each one has been assigned a different book. The six books being worked on at this time are: Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Acts, and Genesis. Each afternoon the entire team meets and go over what has been translated. At present they are looking at the book of Matthew. With much discussion, each word, and every verse is accounted for and agreed upon as being the best translation of the
English. As of May 1st the first eleven chapters have been completed. We are presently looking for a talented Mongolian grammar teacher to join the team to assure that the finished work will be in proper Mongol. Once this has been accomplished the Mongolian translation will be sent to another group of translators who will back translate it into English. This will then be sent to several pastors and faithful church members in the United States to be checked for correct context. Then any discrepancy will be addressed by the entire team and agreed upon before it is printed.
Please keep this work in prayer, Satan has thrown up many obstacles to hinder this work. Everyone here knows and understands that this work is beyond our abilities and a Bible in Mongol will only be by God’s hand.
If you would like to have a part in providing the Word of God to an entire nation, email us and we will let you know what you can do.

| Bible Translation Philosophy |
1. SOURCE OF TRANSLATION.
The source of translation will be the King James Bible, known as the authorized version (AV). We consider this Bible to be the preserved Word of God in the English language. There are no experts in the Mongolian language and the Greek and Hebrew languages; however, there are skilled translators from English to Mongolian. Therefore, the decision was made to translate from the King James Bible. As much as possible and within the limits of ability, constant references will be made to Greek and Hebrew using available references and resources. |
2. TRANSLATION PLAN.
Individual translators will be assigned a portion of scripture to translate. Then the translation team, consisting of the translators and any other available personnel, will meet together and make a critical and thorough review of the translated material and will come to consensus as to how the translation should read. Then Mongolian language grammar experts will review the translation for correct form and grammar. After all corrections are made and reviewed to insure grammar changes did not affect the translation, the text will be given to other translators to back translate the Mongolian into English. This English will then be checked by various people who are well studied in the King James Bible to determine if the Mongolian is saying what was inspired by God. Any identified problem areas will be corrected. |
3. TRANSLATION METHOD.
The Words God spoke are spirit and they are life. Therefore, the translation must reflect such, without adding anything to or taking anything away from what God inspired. Primary concern will be given to accuracy, then language form and readability. The Mongolian language will not allow a word for word translation. However, after translation each English word will be reviewed to determine if it has been included or accounted for in the translation. In cases where words are of absolute necessity to be added they will be identified via italics. Names in the Bible will be transliterated from the Hebrew pronunciation and will be carried over to the New Testament. No other transliterations will be allowed unless absolutely necessary and will be thoroughly reviewed on a case by case basis.

BIBLE WORDS
Below are just a few of the words that our translation team has spent many hours working on to come up with the best possible Mongolian word. Our prayer is to be as accurate as possible and make sure we are only translating and not commentating. This is just a partial list, and if you know of any Mongolian words that would work better then these, please feel free to let us know. One word that has been discussed for 8 years and still at issue it the word for God. The only word in the Mongolian language for God is borhahn, and it is recognized as the highest ascended being in Buddhism. It would be like using Allah in place of God.
